Cigarette butts to paper

The project is an attempt at making used cigarette butts into a useful product while changing the behaviour of people around why cigarette butts are harmful to the environment. This project focuses on systemic approaches to tackle the multi-layered problem of cigarette butts found in every part of our city, Bengaluru.  An overview, outputs and outcomes along with methods and processes are discussed at length. It, however, doesn’t portray all the documentations and insights of the research.

Shiksha Saarathi for rural children in Bihar

This project is a reflection of complex and failing socio-economic, education and bureaucratic systems of Bihar and its cascading effects on lives, livelihoods and aspirations of the future generations. Taking a strand off of the context through primary research, which speaks about active involvement of fathers in the education and growth of the children, this project focuses on building long-term changes in the lives of the children. It also dives deeper into systemically addressing the problem by designing assistive technology with the involvement of the Bihar government, the local NGOs and the parents to support the learning processes of children at home, who are at the mercy and motivations of Anganwadi teachers and exuberant private coaching classes . If this piques your interest, let’s discuss!

Soma-Deep Interactions

A concentrated effort of over four months was required to complete this project as part of my thesis. Soma (Body)-Deep interaction speaks volume about representing humanness in wearable technology. Humanness in the form of bodily processes namely- attention, mirroring and interoception in this project. It questions the status-quo of wearable technologies that rely heavily on data without giving due importance to the firsthand or lived-experiences of the wearer. Two working prototypes were created in order to showcase an alternative method of designing the technology. The final output was a Soma-Deep model constituted at the nexus of aesthetic experience, wearable technology and designer’s somatic sensibilities.

If you are keen to understand the paradigm of Somaesthetic design and the role of bodily processes in design, we can definitely open up a conversation.

Immersive Storytelling as a Design experiment tool

This project laid the foundation for my capstone/thesis project. It equipped the thesis with a new and fresh perspective on body's intelligence and directed it towards insightful bodily processes such as attention and mirroring abilities of our body. This tool can be used in different contexts for speculative designs research. It can even facilitate a design probe that focuses on immersing the participants in the interactions with the props, devices and environment one has created.
